About Dr Catherine Andrew

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience in working with children, adolescents and their families. I have worked extensively in NHS CAMHS services and have a wealth of experience in child and family work. I can offer assessment and intervention for a whole range of childhood emotional and behavioural problems including depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, attachment disorders, PTSD, bereavement and school-based problems. I have specialist training in parenting interventions as well as in assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and ASD.

I have a particular interest in attachment focussed interventions and have worked with children who are adopted or looked after and their carers. I have experience of developing psychologically informed packages of care for young people who are in residential care homes.

I have a real passion for working with children as I believe that this is where the most effective interventions lie. Many mental health problems that exist in adult and older adults, have their root in childhood difficulties. Working with children and families gives me the opportunity to help change a child’s trajectory, and hopefully bring about a lasting change to their mental health and wellbeing.

Integral to working with children is being able to communicate effectively with the child’s family and professional network. Children’s difficulties rarely occur in just one domain, therefore a multi-agency approach to working is often needed.

My clinical approach will be tailored to the needs of the individual client. I can draw on elements of a number of evidence-based therapies including CBT, Narrative Therapy, Story Stem, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Attachment focussed therapy, Play based therapy. I can also work with parents using elements of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CFT (Compassion Focussed Therapy).

In addition to my clinical work, I have developed a number of training packages that can be delivered to schools or residential childcare providers. I can develop bespoke training packages or group intervention to meet your needs.

I am also very experienced as a clinical supervisor and would be happy to provide supervision to other psychologists, therapists or other health professionals.
